The Queen Sister's Blanket

Here is the progress of my giant granny square blanket, as promised yesterday. As I said in my previous post,  I found my inspiration watching the Netflix last season of The Crown series. It was interesting and quite astonishing to see such a blanket in the living room of the sister's queen : a whimsy touch in a classical traditional decor I guess, in accordance with the unconventional personality of the sister's queen.

I wish I could progress more in my crochet but I had other priorities, such as housework and garden duties : gathering the fallen leaves in the front garden, and then welcoming my grand children. We shall start soon baking cookies!

In the last picture my crochet square is displayed on the first quilt I made, an Eight Point Star pattern.

Crochet Giant Granny Square Throw Progress

At the begining of this new lockdown I started searching my stash of yarns with the aim of creating a new multicolor giant granny square blanket.

I picked up all the colored yarns I found for needles or crochet number 4, keeping the brown, grey and beige for another project. 

Here I used the brand Fonty quality Ambiance 100 % superwash Woll superfine SW.

This is a very simple and pleasant project. It is never boring as you change colors. I love playing with varigated colors when I work on a project, that is quilting or knitting. 

Drawstring Baskets

Since some time I wish to sew drawstring baskets for my grandchildren. After searching on Pinterest and on various blogs, I was lucky to find a really great tutorial on this blog : Threading My Way. I must say that I never found such a perfect tutorial, so well explained that you cannot make any mistake. I followed step by step the explanations and had not the least problem. I sewed the orange basket first, and was so satisfied with the result that next day I did a blue one. Tomorrow a pink one! Thank you Pam for Australia!

I chose fabrics from my stash : organic Birch Fabrics.

For the orange basket I just quilted random lines, but for the blue one I did better : I drew regular lines before quilting.

I was absent from the blog since a long time due to various family and health problems... among which a femoral neck fracture last June. I am now recovering and eager to go on sewing, quilting, knitting and blogging...

Giant Hexagons Quilt

So happy to start again a new project after 10 months disability! The good thing is that I had all my time to mentally prepare it! So I had decided for this new quilt to only use fabrics from my stash, choosing my favorite hues (pink, blue and brown), among my reproduction fabrics.

I assemble hexagons, using the half hexie technique. It's a very quick and efficient method. I will write a tutorial in a next post.

This early stage is quite encouraging, I am very pleased with the appearance of these hexagons on my design board...

Herringbone Baby Quilt INSTRUCTIONS

Here are the pictures of my Herringbone baby quilt finished and offered to my niece in Paris.

The gray color recalls Paris' sky, the blue is for the baby boy and the yellow gives a sunny touch.

For this quilt I did 80 blocks of 4.5" x 4.5 each (11.5 cm)

To make the triangles I cut strips of 5" wide (12.7 cm) from each color, then squares of 5" (12.7 cm) and then cut diagonal to obtain 2 triangles. 

The final size of the finished quilt is 32" x 40" (81.5 x 101.5 cm)

Chicago Blue and White Batik Quilt

In 2010 when my eldest son Ch. came from USA for his summer holidays in Greece, he brought me several issues of my favorite quilting magazine : American Patchwork & Quilting. He showed me a picture of a pattern he had found in the August issue : a blue and white quilt he wished I would make for him. Same day I ordered batik blue fabrics and, as soon as received, I began cutting and sewing. It was very quickly done as the pattern was so easy : only squares, all of the same size.

Recently my son moved in his new apartment in Chicago Printers Row, and sent me some pictures of my quilt displayed in his lounge. I think it is of a dramatic effect, I love the contrast between the blue of the quilt and the brown and black colors of the furniture. I feel so happy him enjoying and treasuring this quilt!

I wish that soon I will be able to visit my son in his new surrounding, I am absolutely in love with  his new flat and with this historical building, which was built in 1916 by the Franklin Printing Company, and housed presses until 1983! I cannot resist to show the picture of the front that I find so interesting and beautiful!

Sea and Sand Log Cabin Quilt

My sister just sent me those pictures of the quilt I offered her for her birthday. You can see the progress of this quilt here and here, and closer pictures of it finished here. 

I called this Log Cabin quilt "Sea and Sand" because I chose the colors in accordance with the place where my sister spends the summers in the south of France near the sea. She decided to use it as a wall hanging and I must say I am very pleased with the decorative impact it has in her lounge, although it looks smaller in the pictures than it is in the reality.

Finished Jacket!

Here I am, wearing my finished knitted jacket! I know you were all sooo eager to see it! (I am joking). Anyway, the thing I prefer in this jacket is the silver broach I used to attach it! I ordered it from my friend who is creating wonderful jewels. You can see some of them here. As regards the jacket itself, the real color looks rather like the first picture than like the second one. I am quite satisfied with my knitting as it is very warm, soft and pleasant to wear.

Last Monday was as usual so pleasant! We all work on different projects, with our own personal style, but we appreciate each other's very much.

And to be rewarded after so much "work", Eleni offered us a delicious cheese-cake!

Knitted Jacket

The knitting part of my blue jacket shown in this post is at last finished! This morning, after ironing all the pieces, I started assembling them. I want to finish this work today so that I can wear it tomorrow and show it to my friends at the quilting gathering. All of them are as well fond of knitting.
