Log Cabin Baby Quilt Finished

Here is my last post before leaving Greece to spend the summer in France. Despite my troubles after injuring my spine, I managed little by little to finish hand quilting this baby quilt for my seven months' old grand daughter. It is the reason why the quilting is rather basic...

Herringbone Baby Quilt INSTRUCTIONS

Here are the pictures of my Herringbone baby quilt finished and offered to my niece in Paris.

The gray color recalls Paris' sky, the blue is for the baby boy and the yellow gives a sunny touch.

For this quilt I did 80 blocks of 4.5" x 4.5 each (11.5 cm)

To make the triangles I cut strips of 5" wide (12.7 cm) from each color, then squares of 5" (12.7 cm) and then cut diagonal to obtain 2 triangles. 

The final size of the finished quilt is 32" x 40" (81.5 x 101.5 cm)

Double Four Patch Quilt in Paris

This is the last episode of the Double Four Patch quilt series that began years ago in Athens and ends now in Paris, hanged in my sister's lounge. Thanks to the interest she shown in this project I managed to finish it! Otherwise it may have remained in my UFOs closet for some more years...

When I received those pictures, I was so happy to see how well it matches with the furniture of my sister's lounge. She is as well so happy with it!

Double Four Patch Quilt Finished

At last finished! Machine pieced and machine quilted. I have used mainly leftovers from my Civil War repro fabrics stash. On the last three pictures I have displayed it on my small Tumbling Blocks quilt, as well done with Civil War fabrics.

My sister, for whom I did this quilt, is arriving to Greece very soon and I am so happy I managed to finish it in time!

Fan Quilt

So happy to receive those lovely pictures from my niece in Paris! I had offered her this Fan quilt few years ago and she was pleased to show me how great it looks on her new sofa.

How rewarding it is when you make a quilt for a beloved one and you see that it is cherished!

I had done this Fan quilt exclusively with Kaffe Fassett fabrics. It is square (about 1yard 25 x 1 yard 25) machine pieced and hand quilted.

Double Four Patch Quilt Binding

My Double Four Patch quilt came back from my friend Eleni. So grateful to her for her quick and wonderful long-arm quilting!

I chose a dark blue fabric for the binding.

I prepared the binding strip. As I was in a hurry (my sister was coming soon to Greece to take delivery of it), I had no time to proceed as usual : machine sewing on the right side and then hand sewing on the back, so I decided to try, for the first time, machine sewing on both sides. For this I proceeded the opposite way from what I usually do :

I have been sewing the strip on the wrong side and then turning it on the right side, sewing very carefully on it. The end result is quite satisfying from my point of view.

One Patch Organic Baby Quilt Finished!

As I was so busy this week, I regret, for those waiting for the tutorial of this baby quilt, that I did not succeed in writing it this week as foreseen, and therefore I will publish it in my next post. Still happy I managed to finish the little quilt for my third grandson born last month!

Chicago Blue and White Batik Quilt

In 2010 when my eldest son Ch. came from USA for his summer holidays in Greece, he brought me several issues of my favorite quilting magazine : American Patchwork & Quilting. He showed me a picture of a pattern he had found in the August issue : a blue and white quilt he wished I would make for him. Same day I ordered batik blue fabrics and, as soon as received, I began cutting and sewing. It was very quickly done as the pattern was so easy : only squares, all of the same size.

Recently my son moved in his new apartment in Chicago Printers Row, and sent me some pictures of my quilt displayed in his lounge. I think it is of a dramatic effect, I love the contrast between the blue of the quilt and the brown and black colors of the furniture. I feel so happy him enjoying and treasuring this quilt!

I wish that soon I will be able to visit my son in his new surrounding, I am absolutely in love with  his new flat and with this historical building, which was built in 1916 by the Franklin Printing Company, and housed presses until 1983! I cannot resist to show the picture of the front that I find so interesting and beautiful!
