Baby Crib Bumper

Yesterday early in the morning I decided not to start my day with any housework, but instead to sew the baby bumper for my grandson. It took me less than one hour to achieve it. I took pictures step by step and in my next post I will write the tutorial : I thought it may help beginners to do it the simplest way.

I brought this bumper to my daughter who was pleased to get it at last and we fixed it in the crib. Baby seems to enjoy it... not for long as he is growing so fast that we shall have to buy a bigger bed soon... and to sew a new bumper!

Baby received many beautiful presents as this Beatrix Potter porcelain tableware, and this cute elephant matching perfectly with the quilt I offered my daughter last summer.

Manon's Quilt

This is the last episode of the String Quilt series! Manon came home and received her present.

It was such a pleasure to see how happy she was with her quilt!

As you can see, she is expecting a baby! Such a happiness! It's her first child, a baby boy

expected beginning of December... This means of course another baby quilt project!

Manon is going back to her house with her quilt under the arm. It will cheer up

 her neutral tune lounge when spread on her white sofa.

String Quilt Finished!

I am so happy to have my string quilt finished! 

Very early in the morning, before too much sun and too much heat,

I went to the garden to take some pictures of this quilt that I will offer

to my daughter, as she "fell in love" with it at first sight!

If I highlight this block, it's because I remember that when I started to select my fabrics for this project, I hesitated and almost decided to put this yellow one away... thanks God I did'nt, it appears to be THE ONE!

It seems to bring sun to my quilt.

String Quilt Binding

My String quilt is back from Eleni's, who again did a beautiful quilting!

It's now time to prepare it for binding. As I have added a neutral beige sashing, I thought that a busy binding, recalling a fabric I used in several blocks, would be fine.

I trim the sides.

The binding is done and I will sew it as explained in MY TUTORIAL.

For the back of the quilt, as usual, I will hand sew the binding, as explained in my other TUTORIAL .

Listening to music, I relax and I sew, really enjoying this phase of the whole quilting.

String Top Finished

Here is my finished top. I chose a neutral tune for the sashing, and for the binding I will use a fabric left from the blocks. The backing will as well be neutral. The size is 1.75/2 yards. I will offer it to my daughter for her new appartment. She loves joyful colors!

Not easy to take pictures in the wind!

Behind the hanged top is a fig tree, and in the corner you can see a little cat passing by.

Focus on my rose tree, a little spoilt by the high wind.

String Quilt Blocks

This week-end was very busy with gardening, cooking and finishing the string blocks. They are now ready to be sewn, and I expect to receive the fabrics I ordered for the sashing and backing.

Tonight I baked a panettone for the quilting bee party tomorrow at home. Waiting for it to be cooked, I took this picture of the beautiful gardenia that my daughter offered me on the first of May. There are great smells in the kitchen : the gardenia flowers mixed with the smells of the brioche almost ready.

I always have a little anxiety opening the stove, shall I have a bad surprise... no it's ok, it seems perfectly baked!

We shall taste it tomorrow morning with a good cup of coffee. In the meantime I wish everybody a great Sunday evening!

String Quilt Progress

A dream fulfilled : I have a design board in my studio! After years on the knees to arrange the disposal of my blocks on the floor, after years of pains and stiffness I remembered that they were some isolating panels in the underground, remains from the building of the house, and that I could use them for this purpose!

As they were too high to put them vertically, I installed three panels horizontally, one over each other, using adhesive tape all around, to maintain them together. I will have them cut one day, to set them vertically.

For the time being it's ok. This is really an essential tool, especially for this kind of project.

I spend a long time re-arranging the blocks, and at the end I think that not one remained at the place I had chosen at the beginning!

Little problem here.

This tool is as well essential : instead of standing, each time I sew a stripe, to iron it, I press it with this

"ecologic" iron and it makes the job alright!

 Today is the first of May. Here it's a holiday and the tradition is to make a wreath with fresh spring flowers
and hang it on the door.

My daughter and her boyfriend are doing this perfectly!
