A Dream of a Poncho

 

I knitted this poncho last month in three days. It was so quick and easy! The pattern is created by my sister, reproducing an old poncho bought years ago in Peru and completely damaged by wearing it for so long. 

I used 100 g of Drops Melody with number 12 circular needles. I finished it with a crochet row all around and one pompom at each corner.

I am so happy with it, it keeps me warm in the evenings. Though spring is here, the evenings are still

very fresh... This poncho is so pleasant to wear, light like a feather and so warm!

Chicago Blue and White Batik Quilt

In 2010 when my eldest son Ch. came from USA for his summer holidays in Greece, he brought me several issues of my favorite quilting magazine : American Patchwork & Quilting. He showed me a picture of a pattern he had found in the August issue : a blue and white quilt he wished I would make for him. Same day I ordered batik blue fabrics and, as soon as received, I began cutting and sewing. It was very quickly done as the pattern was so easy : only squares, all of the same size.

Recently my son moved in his new apartment in Chicago Printers Row, and sent me some pictures of my quilt displayed in his lounge. I think it is of a dramatic effect, I love the contrast between the blue of the quilt and the brown and black colors of the furniture. I feel so happy him enjoying and treasuring this quilt!

I wish that soon I will be able to visit my son in his new surrounding, I am absolutely in love with  his new flat and with this historical building, which was built in 1916 by the Franklin Printing Company, and housed presses until 1983! I cannot resist to show the picture of the front that I find so interesting and beautiful!

Christmas Quilt

 

When I entered a quilting group about twenty years ago, everyone was working on an Eight Point Star quilt. They showed me how to proceed, and I did my first quilt using this pattern. With the enthusiasm of the beginner I finished it quickly and started at once a second one with the same pattern : this Christmas lap quilt. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. Every Christmas since twenty years I enjoy taking it out from the closet and display it on a sofa.

Rail Fence Quilt

Those pictures were taken in London where two of my sons are living. I did this lap quilt for my youngest son. He lives in a cottage and asked me a quilt that would match with the style of his decoration. I understood that I should use brown and beige colors and find a graphic design. I chose the Rail Fence pattern. This is an easy pattern, quickly done. The quilt is machine pieced and hand quilted. The size is about 54" x 54". On the last picture you can see the large brown border. I must say that the result is stunning in the lounge of this cottage and my son and his wife are very happy with it. 

Mini Nine Patch

For many years Lucy's blog was one of my favorite sources of inspiration. I love Lucy's creations and pictures. This mini Nine Patch quilt is a reproduction of one of her miniatures. It is machine pieced and hand quilted. The size is 10.5" x 8". 

Quilt rack

Recently I don't hand quilt a lot and I thought of using my Grace Company quilting frame as a rack to display my antique quilts. I had searched for an antique rack or antique ladder, but did not find anything like that here. Unfortunately I don't think that this display is good looking with all those black screws and wheels.

Let's say it is provisional until I find a proper rack.

Waking up this morning I heared a strong wind and thought of my lovely fresh roses. What a pitty, when I opened my bedroom window I saw the rose tree bending and the flowers getting damaged. The climate here is rather harsh so that it's difficut to keep a beautiful garden, as after the wind will come the heat!

I hope the rose tree that grew very high, and that we admire from the lounge will not be damaged!

Antique Doll Quilt and Bunny

Today I will show you the second antique doll quilt from the batch, previously shown in this post,
that I received in London last month.

I think that brown, beige and pink are perfectly matching colors, one of my favorite antique fabrics blends.

Nice white and blue calicot and nice hand quilting.

For those who may be interested in Beatrix Potter art and life, I recommend this excellent film : Miss Potter, with Renee Zellweger in the role of Beatrix Potter. I was so delighted when I first saw this film, that I watched it again and again... This is one of my best films ever!

Grey and white

A baby quilt I sewed for my unique (for the time being) grand child.

I used organic fabrics and a very warm and light batting.
