Being unable to spend hours and hours quilting as I used to do in the past, due to pains in the back, I just quilted this baby quilt with big stitches, following the sides of the small squares of the four patch blocks, using variegated colored threads. The final result is quite pleasant.

Four Patch Baby Quilt
Among my unfinished tops I picked what I called the Gypsy Four Patch top. I found it too messy to become a double size bed cover, definitely I did not like it. Sometimes I wonder why I insist when in doubt... I remember that from the very beginning I was not sure of myself and instead of stopping I went on adding other fabric lines, as a consequence that the more I was advancing with this project, trying to improve it, the less I was satisfied. Final result : an abandoned top.
Wondering what to do with this top, it came to my mind that it could be nice as a baby quilt. So I cut it in four parts and started to quilt the first one. On a small scale it looks better and quite joyful though soft colors. Maybe the fabric design is not very kid's style? What is you opinion? Well, we shall see and if I am pleased with this first one I will go on with the three others...

Gypsy Four patch Quilt Borders
These days I am still adding borders to enlarge my Gypsy Four Patch quilt top to fit my bed.
Unfortunately I had no fabric enough to cut stripes properly : following the prints of the fabrics.
Well... let's say it is boheme style!
You can see this quilt top before borders were added here.

Bohemian Crochet Shawl Finished
I thought the shawl was finished, but my daughter who took those pictures wants it for herself and wants fringes. So there will be another post showing it with fringes. Therefore I have to make another one for myself! It is becoming "shawl mania" in this house! Meanwhile I am still working on extending my Gypsy quilt top. Not only "shawl mania" but as well "gypsy mania"...

Gypsy Four Patch Top Extension
Spring arrived already! The almond tree in the garden is full of lovely flowers and the bees are flying all around making an engine's noise! The weather was so good last week that my children and grandson went to the beach and although the sea was cold they even went to swim!
With spring comes again the will of sewing fresh color fabrics. Searching among my UFOs I found my Gypsy Four Patch top. It was exactly the kind of colors corresponding to my mood.
I don't often make borders to my quilts, but as regards this one, I thought it looked somewhat unfinished and useless as it was not big enough for a double size bed and too big for a sofa throw.
So I decided to enlarge it in order to fit exactly to my bed. I began to choose fabrics and to cut a first band. Then I will cut rectangles and squares of matching fabrics to complete the top.
For the backing I think of using these lovely Joel Dewberry fabrics.

Gyspy Four Patch Top Finished
After being uncertain about it, I began to like my Gypsy top, especially when displayed outside! For this, its destiny may be
a picnic blanket. The size is 70"x 84". Each block mesures 7"/7".
While I took these pictures with sunshine and a beautiful blue sky, I realized looking at the virgina creeper
that fall is here. I love the red color of it and I love automn, leaving behind the summer's heat!
Wishes for a beautiful Sunday.

Gypsy Four Patch
Since some time I dream of making a gypsy style quilt. As I had not enough fabrics for such a project, I had to wait to receive them to start. My idea was to make a soft medium tunes quilt, with some strong contrasts here and there, so that it is not boring. I wanted to give it a "random style", which in fact is everything but not random! I enjoyed playing with all these varieties of values and colors but... I suffered... isnt' it paradoxical?
My fabrics arrived last friday. On saturday and sunday, in a sort of frenzy, I cut and sewed restless, so that on sunday evening my 120 blocks were laid out on the design board! Monday and tuesday I spent some time examining the result of all this frenzy from far, from close, from up the stairs, taking pictures... At the end, I believe that this last layout is the good one and that I should stop looking at it and start piecing the blocks together!
You will see this top finished in my next post.
Hope you are having a great time quilting!
Christine
