As I said in my previous post, I found my inspiration watching the Netflix last season of The Crown series. It was interesting and quite astonishing to see such a blanket in the living room of the sister's queen : a whimsy touch in a classical traditional decor I guess, in accordance with the unconventional personality of the sister's queen.</div><div><br /></div><div>I wish I could progress more in my crochet but I had other priorities, such as housework and garden duties : gathering the fallen leaves in the front garden, and then welcoming my grand children. We shall start soon baking cookies!</div><div><br /></div><div>In the last picture my crochet square is displayed on the first quilt I made, an Eight Point Star pattern.</div><div><br /></div><div>You can buy this blanket from my Etsy shop : <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/1150311604/couverture-plaid-au-crochet-giant-granny?click_key=39177919ca77fca043e377f95e264428ce3e2305%3A1150311604&click_sum=5af1c91c&ref=shop_home_recs_2" target="_blank">pochonsEtcomptines</a></div><div><br /></div><div>My new Etsy shop : <a href="https://www.etsy.com/fr/shop/yayaCousette?ref=seller-platform-mcnav">yayaCousette</a></div>Quilting Storieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08452509937736643935noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1104416203292328797.post-42413894393557657432020-12-23T10:29:00.003+02:002020-12-23T10:29:50.519+02:00Happy Mail!<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5ZgS89tpPNY/X-HJLMhevYI/AAAAAAAANVA/cnP3lpZh2OUWf4F_q93Too7AcduUAng0wCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2406.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Yarn" border="0" data-original-height="583" data-original-width="640" height="584" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5ZgS89tpPNY/X-HJLMhevYI/AAAAAAAANVA/cnP3lpZh2OUWf4F_q93Too7AcduUAng0wCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h584/IMG_E2406.jpg" title="Yarn" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zt1QSQeUokk/X-HJLFlFSYI/AAAAAAAANU8/nS7RD70X--47-YaAy7f7cJONuF5umQ55wCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2407.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Yarn" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zt1QSQeUokk/X-HJLFlFSYI/AAAAAAAANU8/nS7RD70X--47-YaAy7f7cJONuF5umQ55wCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2407.jpg" title="Yarn" width="640" /></a></div><br /> <a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7pSASab6LqA/X-L7i5GTfzI/AAAAAAAANVM/UrNG8JS2JBIWmQsNWO-zaK6IRpCFERIFQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2408.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img alt="Granny Square" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7pSASab6LqA/X-L7i5GTfzI/AAAAAAAANVM/UrNG8JS2JBIWmQsNWO-zaK6IRpCFERIFQCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2408.jpg" title="Granny Square" width="640" /></a><br /><br /><div>At last a post delivery yesterday : my order from UK placed one month ago... </div><div>After opening the parcel I started immediately my new crochet project : another giant granny square blanket inspired by the Netflix series The Crown! It was such a happiness to see them so joyful and enthusiastic for preparing Christmas! My six years old grand-son and my four years old grand-daughter helped me baking the French traditional Christmas cookies : sablés de Noël. After what, with the help of their father, they cut some paper ornaments and garlands, and hanged them on the tree. It is the first time I let the children decorate the Christmas tree without interfering and I must say that they did a very good job!<p></p><p>The Christmas Stars quilt is the second quilt I did years ago and it's always a pleasure to see it again at this time of the year. You can see several detailed pictures of it in a previous post : <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2014/12/christmas-quilt-completed-eight-point-star-red-green-white.html" target="_blank">Click</a>.</p>Quilting Storieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08452509937736643935noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1104416203292328797.post-6686081226317833672020-12-04T17:18:00.000+02:002020-12-04T17:18:32.244+02:00Sleeveless Sweater Finished!<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MiLKzDyVQRk/X8pJ8-nlykI/AAAAAAAANRY/tlaLzyBhXcgWZadKBakzW2Hd3O5OFwq_gCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_2317%2B%25281%2529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Sleeveless sweater" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="451" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MiLKzDyVQRk/X8pJ8-nlykI/AAAAAAAANRY/tlaLzyBhXcgWZadKBakzW2Hd3O5OFwq_gCLcBGAsYHQ/w452-h640/IMG_2317%2B%25281%2529.jpg" title="Sleeveless sweater" width="452" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bxEcs6o0V1Q/X8pFvapL8xI/AAAAAAAANQ4/cMwpcqJxgnQXIEvTHSMnqOLlJnhyTErwwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2278.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Sleeveless sweater" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bxEcs6o0V1Q/X8pFvapL8xI/AAAAAAAANQ4/cMwpcqJxgnQXIEvTHSMnqOLlJnhyTErwwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2278.jpg" title="Sleeveless sweater" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ndt0OT-bvjo/X8pFvSslmHI/AAAAAAAANQ8/Paeib8LAvAEaGeKFNM_0OXMTRPhOUMffQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2279.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Sleeveless sweater" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ndt0OT-bvjo/X8pFvSslmHI/AAAAAAAANQ8/Paeib8LAvAEaGeKFNM_0OXMTRPhOUMffQCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2279.jpg" title="Sleeveless sweater" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SJUMidMLe3U/X8pFv_nGARI/AAAAAAAANRA/cOhO50kBQicA2MnYV0dkt9PydbKj9USIQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2280.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Sleeveless sweater" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SJUMidMLe3U/X8pFv_nGARI/AAAAAAAANRA/cOhO50kBQicA2MnYV0dkt9PydbKj9USIQCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2280.jpg" title="Sleeveless sweater" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kaIGVvdxndE/X8pFwJhUbRI/AAAAAAAANRE/rH7TxLeCsd4RPcFQAIBVLE_jLscqyGhCACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2315.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Sleeveless sweater" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kaIGVvdxndE/X8pFwJhUbRI/AAAAAAAANRE/rH7TxLeCsd4RPcFQAIBVLE_jLscqyGhCACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2315.jpg" title="Sleeveless sweater" width="640" /></a></div><br />Happy to finish, and to present you my new sweater. I have shown the progress of it in my previous post. <p></p><p>I am not a specialist of taking selfies in a mirror, and I must say I had a hard time achieving "proper" pictures 😅, sorry for the bad quality of them, but in fact I wanted to show you the real length over a shirt. On the first picture I think that the shirt is a little too long... or maybe I should have done the sweater a bit longer... next one will be longer and the neckline somewhat deeper. Next one should be perfect! </p><p>In the meantime I have to finish my giant granny square blanket <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2020/11/crochet-giant-granny-square-throw.html" target="_blank"><b>Click</b></a>, before receiving my next order of yarns from the UK. I am eager to get it to be able to start my new project. I was enthusiastic about the colors I chose and I hope I will not be disappointed when seeing them in reality...</p>Quilting Storieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08452509937736643935noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1104416203292328797.post-35971757918468714812020-12-01T08:56:00.001+02:002020-12-01T08:56:37.532+02:00Knitted Sleeveless Sweater<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YO0GbAqBlig/X8TumLU1ZHI/AAAAAAAANQM/fGl7MFa4JWQcgStYsmJQTUtGQdC8K9-hgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2194.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Knitted sweater" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YO0GbAqBlig/X8TumLU1ZHI/AAAAAAAANQM/fGl7MFa4JWQcgStYsmJQTUtGQdC8K9-hgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2194.jpg" title="Knitted sweater" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MtQbywexgCg/X8TumPWYaAI/AAAAAAAANQQ/Kgr3cr56VpY0E9kkDfpdymi37s1kO1EzgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2195.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Knitted sweater" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MtQbywexgCg/X8TumPWYaAI/AAAAAAAANQQ/Kgr3cr56VpY0E9kkDfpdymi37s1kO1EzgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2195.jpg" title="Knitted sweater" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9LtpaD676Us/X8TumN3WHYI/AAAAAAAANQU/YESI0tU7dAcRjRnv0_JOYty5gGW1uO4cwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2196.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Knitting project bag" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9LtpaD676Us/X8TumN3WHYI/AAAAAAAANQU/YESI0tU7dAcRjRnv0_JOYty5gGW1uO4cwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2196.jpg" title="Knitting project bag" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3rcR9sk35b4/X8Tum7kGivI/AAAAAAAANQY/5eh1kRiUXLIwEtpOUKv098T4xRqecneWwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_E2197.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Knitting project bag" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3rcR9sk35b4/X8Tum7kGivI/AAAAAAAANQY/5eh1kRiUXLIwEtpOUKv098T4xRqecneWwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/IMG_E2197.jpg" title="Knitting project bag" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Happy to find at last a pattern requiring only 5 wool balls, as I have several batches of 5 balls in my stash.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Pattern found here : <a href="http://susanne-gustafsson.dk/loes-vest-med-slidser/" target="_blank"><b>Click</b></a>. As well I feel so warm and comfortable wrapped up in it, reading or watching tv on the sofa!</div><div><div><br /></div><div>If you wish to knit such a shawl, you will find the <b>TUTORIAL</b> here : <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2015/10/knitted-shawl-finished-instructions-garter-stitch.html" target="_blank">CLICK</a></div><div><br /></div></div>Quilting Storieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08452509937736643935noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1104416203292328797.post-35074335955644016082020-11-14T14:14:00.000+02:002020-11-14T14:14:08.073+02:00Tea Dyeing Tutorial<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">To progress with my scrappy <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2017/12/giant-hexagons-quilt-project-repro-fabrics.html" target="_blank">Giant hexagon quilt</a>, I needed more reproduction style fabrics. Instead of ordering new fabrics I thought of dyeing some from my stash with the tea method, in order to give them the appearance of old fabrics. This was my first attempt to dye using this method, and I must say that the result was very satisfying. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Here is what you need</b> if you want to turn your modern fabric into a vintage one :</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">For <b>one yard</b> fabric :</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">1 large saucepan</div><div style="text-align: center;">1 Litre water</div><div style="text-align: center;">2 tablespoons salt</div><div style="text-align: center;">5 black tea bags</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Here is the method :</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><ol style="text-align: left;"><li>Bring the water to boil with the salt,</li><li>Stop the boiling and put your tea bags into the hot water. Add a little vinegar, and leave the fabric to soak for about 10 mn, in order to fix the color.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Press out the excess water from your fabric and let it dry flat, if possible outside.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>

Back to Greece... and to my blog after a long summer in France. I am still busy there restoring my 19th century summer house bought five years ago. I love doing this job and especially decorating, with the drawback that it keeps me temporarily away from quilting. </p><p>I have sent most of my quilts, the antique ones and those done by me, from Greece to France, with the aim of a future exhibition, but not only : my house is going to be filled with quilts on beds, on couches, hanged on walls...</p><p>The above picture shows two antique quilts displayed on the sofa in the living room, bought by one of my sons on ebay in 2014. You can see several pictures of those quilts, with details <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2014/11/antique-quilt-pink-green-sashing-water-mill.html">HERE</a> and <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2014/05/antique-star-scrap-quilt-ranunculus.html">HERE</a>.</p><br /><p></p>Quilting Storieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08452509937736643935noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1104416203292328797.post-75440559225771265742020-02-24T18:40:00.001+02:002020-02-24T18:40:06.053+02:00Two Drawstring bags<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Since my first drawstring bags, shown <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2020/01/drawstring-baskets.html" target="_blank">here</a>, I became addicted to sewing bags! For those ones I did not follow a tutorial, but I was inspired by pictures on Pinterest and by the tutorial I used previously from <a href="https://www.threadingmyway.com/2013/12/fabric-basket-with-drawstring-top.html" target="_blank">Threading My Way</a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As regards those two fabrics, I am so happy that I found a way to use them, and I think that the result is quite satisfying. They were in my stash for years, and seeing them from time to time I was wondering what was the purpose of buying such a kind of printed fabric. I find them lovely but difficult to use for a quilting project...<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
Being unable to spend hours and hours quilting as I used to do in the past, due to pains in the back, I just quilted this baby quilt with big stitches, following the sides of the small squares of the four patch blocks, using variegated colored threads. The final result is quite pleasant.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
After seeing many such bags on Pinterest and Instagram I decided to sew my own knitting bag.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I chose this lovely printed canvas from Elanbach which has a good firmness required for this kind of project. Very pleased with this first bag I will sew some others using plain canvas from my stash.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Until now I did not buy any new material. The purpose is : using all the stuff I have at home and decluttering.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
On the last picture I displayed my new knitting bag next to a shawl I knitted and a cross stitch embroidery I achieved in 2012.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Among my unfinished tops I picked what I called the <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2014/10/gyspy-four-patch-top-finished.html" target="_blank">Gypsy Four Patch</a> top. I found it too messy to become a double size bed cover, definitely I did not like it. Sometimes I wonder why I insist when in doubt... I remember that from the very beginning I was not sure of myself and instead of stopping I went on adding other fabric lines, as a consequence that the more I was advancing with this project, trying to improve it, the less I was satisfied. Final result : an abandoned top.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Wondering what to do with this top, it came to my mind that it could be nice as a baby quilt. So I cut it in four parts and started to quilt the first one. On a small scale it looks better and quite joyful though soft colors. Maybe the fabric design is not very kid's style? What is you opinion? Well, we shall see and if I am pleased with this first one I will go on with the three others...</div>

Since some time I wish to sew drawstring baskets for my grandchildren. After searching on Pinterest and on various blogs, I was lucky to find a really great tutorial on this blog : <a href="https://www.threadingmyway.com/2013/12/fabric-basket-with-drawstring-top.html" target="_blank">Threading My Way</a>. I must say that I never found such a perfect tutorial, so well explained that you cannot make any mistake. I followed step by step the explanations and had not the least problem. I sewed the orange basket first, and was so satisfied with the result that next day I did a blue one. Tomorrow a pink one! Thank you Pam for Australia!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose fabrics from my stash : organic Birch Fabrics.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the orange basket I just quilted random lines, but for the blue one I did better : I drew regular lines before quilting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was absent from the blog since a long time due to various family and health problems... among which a femoral neck fracture last June. I am now recovering and eager to go on sewing, quilting, knitting and blogging...</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After a very long absence from my blog, I am back with the last quilt I achieved.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was a very easy and quick baby quilt to complete, though hand quilted. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I started end of September and finished beginning of November, just in time before flying to Paris : </div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
last stitches the night before!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This quilt is a gift for my niece who decorated the bedroom of her future daughter using very soft colors. I first intended to sew a quilt using my beloved Liberty fabrics but, after I received the pictures of the wallpapers, I put them away and decided to try a new fabric selection.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Quite happy with it... the colors matched successfully! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I love the atmosphere of this baby girl's room... definitely sweet romantic.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Those pictures were taken in Paris, three days before Simone's birth!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

A little trip to Paris last week. And for me, going to Paris means visiting and shopping at La Droguerie, my favorite haberdasher's shop. They have their own production and dyeing of great quality yarns. In this wonderful shop you can find quilting fabrics, Liberty fabrics, all sorts of threads, buttons, beads, ribbons... as well as catalogues with their great patterns for children or adults.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I remember when this shop was created in 1975, I was one of their first customer and so happy to find cashmere yarn, out of which I knitted a sweater for the one who became and still is my husband!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Coming back to Athens I started knitting a little jacket for my 3 years old grandson.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am as well progressing my giant hexagon quilt top.</div>

So happy to start again a new project after 10 months disability! The good thing is that I had all my time to mentally prepare it! So I had decided for this new quilt to only use fabrics from my stash, choosing my favorite hues (pink, blue and brown), among my reproduction fabrics.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I assemble hexagons, using the half hexie technique. It's a very quick and efficient method. I will write a tutorial in a next post.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
This early stage is quite encouraging, I am very pleased with the appearance of these hexagons on my design board...</div>

<br />
Hi everyone, sorry for being absent for so long from the blog. The fact is that since my accident last February I could not yet sew or quilt because of back pains. The only thing I could do was knitting a little, sitting straight in my armchair. Thus my shawl is the only thing I have to show lately. I already posted before <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2017/06/green-shawl-knitted-garstitch-crochet.html" target="_blank">a green shawl</a> the same style, and <a href="https://quiltingstories.blogspot.com/2015/10/knitted-shawl-finished-instructions-garter-stitch.html" target="_blank">a tutorial</a>.<br />
<br />
For this last shawl I decided not to crochet the border, to give it a more rural style, and I am very pleased with its final look. The result is exactly as expected. (It doesn't often happen!).<br />
<br />
I used a wonderful natural and soft yarn : Fonty Fado 662 (9 skeins for the shawl and 1 for the fringes), that I knitted with needles no 5 (French).<br />
<br />
I hope that my next post will be relative to quilting as since a long time I have in mind a project that I am so eager to start!...<br />
