Paris

Paris

Here are the pictures of my Herringbone baby quilt finished and offered to my niece in Paris.
The gray color recalls Paris' sky, the blue is for the baby boy and the yellow gives a sunny touch.

For this quilt I did 80 blocks of 4.5" x 4.5 each (11.5 cm)
To make the triangles I cut strips of 5" wide (12.7 cm) from each color, then squares of 5" (12.7 cm) and then cut diagonal to obtain 2 triangles.

The final size of the finished quilt is 32" x 40" (81.5 x 101.5 cm)

Feeling so sorry for being late on my posting : these pictures were taken mid-september. Since then the quilt was achieved and delivered to my niece in Paris!

Before showing it completed, I wanted to share with you the progress of it and the hand quilting.

I hurried to finish it before leaving for Paris last month. The last stitch was sewn the night before flying, and the label sewn in Paris!

Next post will show this baby quilt finished and photographed in the future baby's room.

Half Square Triangles

When my son came for holidays from Chicago he brought to me the fabrics I had ordered. I am so happy with them, they are gorgeous! And so grateful to my son for loading his suitcase with fabrics!

I have several projects... starting first with baby quilts for two babies : my first grand-daughter and my first grand nephew, both to be born next month!

I have done a selection of fabrics in the colors wished by my niece, and for this first baby quilt I have cut all the required half square triangles for a herringbone pattern.

Apron & Summer Crop

As I said before, summer was dedicated to the family (children and grand-children) who visited us. Although I spent most of the days in the kitchen, I had a little time to sew for my daughter an apron with an ancient piece of linen.

I pitted kilos of cherries to prepare jars for the winter. We collected the almonds from our tree and peeled them.
I did as well tomato sauce jars, but they were eaten before I even thought of taking pictures! I may prepare some more jars, as we still find very good tomatoes at the market.

The reason why...

... I was absent from my blog since a month :

Grandsons

Lounge

Lounge

Lounge

Lounge

My son from Chicago and my son, his wife and their two babies from London came to spend August in Greece. I was so happy to have them here with me! I met my third grandson for the first time! My daughter and her baby were as well here, and as you can understand I had the best excuse not to have any time left for quilting or blogging! Proof are those pictures of my lounge... I would be ashamed to show you in what situation is the rest of my home : a mess everywhere. Needless to talk about my kitchen!!!

I will be back soon (after home will be again in its usual state), with new quilting projects, new ideas and new fabrics from Chicago.

Liberty Pillow

Liberty Pillow

My hexagon pillow started last year here is at last finished!
It measures 50 cm x 50 cm (19.5" x 19.5").
There are 52 hexagons assembled by hand. English paper piecing method. Tutorial here.
I only used scraps from Liberty fabrics.

The day I found this picture on Pinterest I instantly decided I have to make this cute little bunny!
Same day I did a pattern (approximate) and started to search among my Liberty scraps.
Next day it was done and sent to my niece for her baby boy to be born next November.

The patchwork body measures 22 cm x 22 cm (about 8.50" x 8.50").

I enjoyed so much sewing this cute cuddly toy that I will make a second one right now : we are expecting several babies soon... Opportunity for creating adorable things!

These days I am still adding borders to enlarge my Gypsy Four Patch quilt top to fit my  bed.
Unfortunately I had no fabric enough to cut stripes properly : following the prints of the fabrics.
Well... let's say it is boheme style!

You can see this quilt top before borders were added here.

Hexagons in Summer Heat!

Hexagons paper piecing

Almond tree

Almond tree

Summer started abruptly this year : since Saturday we have here in Athens Greece 40 ˚C (104 ˚F)!!
Difficult to quilt with this heat, but what I really enjoy is to hand sew very early in the morning, in the back yard, before it becomes too hot.

Among my hand sewing UFOs, I found those Liberty hexagons abandonned last year... I will try to finish a pillow size 19.50'x19.50" (50 cm x 50 cm). I had done a tutorial for those paper pieced hexagons.

During sewing I can admire my almond tree full of almonds, hoping the harvest will be good this year!

Tea party

Flowers

Queen Elizabeth II

Looking for a tablecloth matching my Haviland China tea set, I found nothing satisfying in my dozens of tablecloths stash. I then remembered I had some pieces of fabrics remaining from the pillows you can see in this post , that I had sewn some years ago. I love those romantic floral prints. The fabric is linen and I had ordered it from my favorite shop in London :
http://www.cabbagesandroses.com

I used all the remaining fabrics. I sewed them together and added a white linen sashing all around.

I received my sister, niece and friends coming from France for a tea party. My new tablecloth was
successful... and my pineapple cake much appreciated!
