La Droguerie

A little trip to Paris last week. And for me, going to Paris means visiting and shopping at La Droguerie, my favorite haberdasher's shop. They have their own production and dyeing of great quality yarns. In this wonderful shop you can find quilting fabrics, Liberty fabrics, all sorts of threads, buttons, beads, ribbons... as well as catalogues with their great patterns for children or adults.

I remember when this shop was created in 1975, I was one of their first customer and so happy to find cashmere yarn, out of which I knitted a sweater for the one who became and still is my husband!

Coming back to Athens I started knitting a little jacket for my 3 years old grandson.

I am as well progressing my giant hexagon quilt top.

Embroided Pincushion

Pincushion

This is not quilting, but I was feeling like showing one of my pincushions that I re-discovered after putting order in my studio. I think that this embroidery was meant to be a big one (I don't remember what exactly) but it remained at the size of a pincushion!! I suppose the work of cross-stitching on a raw piece of old linen was tedious and backbreaking, and it discouraged me from going further!

Short Tutorial for Hand Sewing a Quilt Back Border

I always enjoy to give the last touch to my quilts by hand sewing the back border. It is not very quick, but I like this part of the work, I find it relaxing.

I use an applique needle and a thread that should always be the same color as the border (here red).

I make a slipped stitch all along. (I slip the thread inside the border). The result is absolutely invisible!

Sewing Room

A new project.

I don't know if somebody is like me, but when I take it into my head to start  

a new quilt, I have first to clean everything around me and put order in my 

sewing room. That's what I did yesterday and I think it's ok, everything

is tidy now, I can start my first block, using the fabrics seen in my post 

of last saturday. This is also an opportunity to show you some parts of 

my sewing place and stuff.
