Windmill HST Baby Quilt Tutorial

Measurements :

Finished block : 7.25"

Finished top : 29" x 36.25"

To make this quilt you will need 5 shades of grey fabrics

from light grey to dark grey. 9" of each one.

Fold your 9" fabric in 2 from seam to seam.

Cut it in 2 lengthwise.

You obtain 2 strips of 4.50"width.

Put 4 strips over each other and cut squares of 4.50".

Cut them in diagonal.

You obtain those triangles.

Put two different shades triangles right side against right side,

and sew them on the diagonal side.

Trim the corners this way.

You obtain this unit.

Open press it.

Lay your 4 units this way.

Sew 2 units together.

Press on the dark side (always).

You obtain those 2 new units.

Sew them together and open press.

You block is ready.

To make your quilt top, arrange your blocks the way it pleases you and then assemble  

them this way :

Sew four blocks together for your first row.

Go on this way with the next 4 rows.

Last step : sew the 5 rows together.

My twenty Windmill blocks are ready to be assembled for another baby quilt. Since yesterday I tried various combinations on the design board. When my daughter came this morning she disarranged everything 

until she told me that this makes her dizzy and disappeared! So I remained alone in front of those three options and I think I will choose the third one. 

Next post I will write the tutorial of this quilt top for beginners who want to make a very quick and easy baby quilt.

Sewing Sewing Sewing...

all day long!

I added three more rows to my double Four Patch top, which means 30 blocks. To complete it I need another 20 blocks... I think I rather have a break from this and start a new baby quilt for my three months old grandson : first priority, isn't it? As I showed in this post, my daughter chose various shades of grey for this quilt and I suppose it will be a pleasure for me to use soft neutral hues, after all those colorful fabrics lately... relaxing!

Rail Fence UFO

I wonder why, some years ago I had a red and black period! Obviously it was not at all my style and I  quickly gave up this project. Until last week that my niece came to visit me. She is going to get married next June and I proposed to make her a quilt. Her lounge is decorated with grey tunes and a little red. As she told me she would like a quilt in those shades, I remembered this UFO, and when I showed her this project she loved it... so let's go on with my Rail Fence quilt!

Double Four Patch progress

Again I did not progress a lot either in quilting or in knitting. The reason is that I had to spend all the week at my daughter's to help her with her baby because she had a stiff neck and could hardly stand from her bed!

I did a few more double four patch blocks, I knitted for a while in the evening in front of TV, and most of all I cooked for us and for my daughter. Among other dishes, I prepared this traditional Greek winter soup called Fasolada, and I took a picture to show you how it looks like. It is done with beans, carrots, celery, onions and tomatoes and of course a lot of olive oil.

Here I am, back again to my blog that I somewhat neglected for a while, due to the visit of my sister and niece who came from Paris to see my newborn grandson. They remained in Athens for a week, we had a wonderful time, and they were lucky enough to have a good weather... until the snow started to fall yesterday. Today they fly back to France. 

As I said, we are having a second wave of cold, with today a storm of snow! It is very beautiful and looks like Siberia! In those circumstances, nothing better than a good fire, a good book and a knitting... not forgetting of cup of coffee! My blue jacket is progressing slowly but steadily...

Back to the Design Board

First of all, I wish to thank everyone for your encouragements in my last post, on my progressing this UFO. It helped me a lot! The proof is here : I have put it back on the design board and prepared my ready blocks to start again. I have added two lines and a half on the down part yesterday, but I already see that I will have to make some changes in the blocks setting. If ever you have some comments to make about the layout of those blocks, please do, I would be glad to read them and take them into account!
