Here I am, back again to my blog that I somewhat neglected for a while, due to the visit of my sister and niece who came from Paris to see my newborn grandson. They remained in Athens for a week, we had a wonderful time, and they were lucky enough to have a good weather... until the snow started to fall yesterday. Today they fly back to France.

As I said, we are having a second wave of cold, with today a storm of snow! It is very beautiful and looks like Siberia! In those circumstances, nothing better than a good fire, a good book and a knitting... not forgetting of cup of coffee! My blue jacket is progressing slowly but steadily...

After the whirling of the feasts, time for a little break. And I think I really need it. My children and grand children who came for the Christmas holidays left, except one son who is staying another ten days. It's nice not to have the house empty all of a sudden. I will start my new quilting projects after his departure. Resting means reading to me. I read those two wonderful english books : "Wish her Safe at Home" of Rachel Waring in a French translation and "The Color of Milk" of Nell Leyshon in the original langage. I love English literature, ancient and contemporary. The second book is my favorite. It's a long time I haven't read such an impressive story and I recommend it to everybody. It was a nice surprise to "fall" on such a good book as I bought it for the cover page, I loved the picture!  You can see what it is about on the back of the book. Really one of the best books I read recently!

Another finished baby quilt. I had published a tutorial about how to make this chevron Here.
For the backing I chose a fabric print of Jemima Puddle Duck from a tale of Beatrix Potter, my "idole".
As well on the top I used a fabric print with Jemima eggs in a nest. I found some illustrations of this tale in this
wonderful book.
Enjoy your day!

Antique Doll Quilt and Bunny

Antique doll quilt
Detail

Today I will show you the second antique doll quilt from the batch, previously shown in this post,
that I received in London last month.

Antique doll quilt

I think that brown, beige and pink are perfectly matching colors, one of my favorite antique fabrics blends.

Nice white and blue calicot and nice hand quilting.

Beatrix Potter book
Books

I am a great fan of Beatrix Potter art, and those little books are remains from my childhood.

For those who may be interested in Beatrix Potter art and life, I recommend this excellent film : Miss Potter, with Renee Zellweger in the role of Beatrix Potter. I was so delighted when I first saw this film, that I watched it again and again... This is one of my best films ever!

Have a beautiful creative day!

Pink Blossoms

Apricot blossom

This is the very first blossom I found this morning in my garden on the apricot tree... so incredibly beautiful!

Linen fabric

The freshness and the refinement of it reminded me of those fabrics I had bought two years ago in London, from one of my favorite shops in Chelsea : Cabbages and Roses.

Linen fabric

They are such lovely and fresh linens of such a nice quality!

Linen fabric

At that time I had sewn with those fabrics three cushions that I put on my sofa at spring time.
I am thinking now that I could sew some tea towels with the remains.

Linen cushions

This refined Limoges tea cup belonged to my mother.

A beautiful book I read in my twenties.

Book and cushions

This is what I enjoy most : a nice cup of tea with a good book and peace around me!

Exhibition Paris March 2013

Last year in Paris, I was lucky enough to visit the Mona Bismarck
American Center. The antique quilts exhibited were exceptionally
beautiful with a great range of various styles.

This Baltimore quilt was a pure beauty,
the most stunning I ever saw, huge size
and excellent state, like never used.
The appliqué extremely refined, the colors gorgeous!

This one was my favorite one,
mainly because of this rare green color,
and the red hexagons in between the diamonds.

This Pineapple Variation of Log Cabin
with its black background was awesome!

Great inspiration for future creations!
I will never forget this impressive exhibition.

Zig Zag hand bag

Today, reading again this book, bought years ago, I decided to start sewing
a bag which pattern is inside. I always wanted to do so, but for an unknown reason,
I postponed it many times.

Book

The point was to use my remains from Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

I assemble the triangles into squares

I ironed them, then the stripes.

Here I try to match them properly.

Project

I will try to finish it and post it tomorrow.
